From the Pastor

Dear parishioners,

The coronavirus has drastically changed all of our lives. Sometimes we need this kind of thing to make us realize what is most important in life. We get so busy living that we forget what we’re living for. Let’s use this time to refocus on our spiritual destiny. We can do that by extra prayer and spiritual reading. Take advantage of all the things available online now. All public Masses have been suspended in order to arrest the spread of the coronavirus. In addition the governor has invoked a shelter in place policy so we are encouraging everyone to stay home except for the most essential things.

Funerals are limited to graveside only with 10 people are less so just the immediate family. Confessions will continue for those who really need it.

We are certainly here for you especially through phone ministry, but if you need a face to face we can make arrangements.

You can drop off donations to the church by going through the Meeting Room door and slipping it under the door that says “Private” or you can mail it in. The diocese is also coming up with an online giving program for each church parish. We will let you know when that is ready to go. KVPI is airing our daily Mass Monday- Friday at 11:30am on their AM station 1050. They also air Fr. Mitch Guidry’s Sunday Mass at 8:30am. I think our Bishop’s Mass will continue to be aired on Sundays at 11:00am. EWTN shows the Mass 3 times a day. Many priests are live streaming their Masses. Please stay tuned for any further developments.

Our collection last Sunday without a public Mass – Sacred Heart Church was $3,325.00, Maintenance-$290.00, Catholic Relief Services- $110.00, Catholic Charities – $5.00.

Thanks to my brother’s parish in Albuquerque for making a love offering for the mission I did there to St. Joseph Church which was just over $2,000.

Pretty much everything is postponed until further notice.

Sincerely in Christ,

Fr. Tom

Devotion of the Month

The month of April is traditionally dedicated to devotion to Jesus in the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. The Catholic Church teaches that the Blessed Sacrament is the real and living presence of Christ—His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity—received into our souls with every reception of Holy Communion. Our Eucharistic Lord is the source and summit of our Christian life, the ultimate proof of His infinite love for us.

O Lord Jesus, in order that merits of Your sacrifice on the Cross might be applied to every soul of all time, You willed that it should be renewed upon the alter.

At the Last Supper, You said: “Do this in remembrance of Me.”

By these words You gave Your apostles and their successors the power to consecrate bread and wine into Your sacred body and blood, to do what You Yourself did.

We believe that the Mass is both a sacrifice and a memorial, reenacting Your Passion, Death, and Resurrection.

Help us to realize that the Mass is the greatest gift of God to us and our greatest gift to God.
